My biggest aspiration as a composer is to create music that is not only aesthetically engaging, but also relevant and meaningful to others. I draw inspiration from the diverse form of human existence, seeking to address themes that resonate with people from all walks of life. By exploring topics such as the complexities of the human experience and social justice, I aim to compose music that reflects our shared journey, while remaining true to myself. In the pursuit of relevance and meaning, I constantly engage in meaningful dialogue with others. I find having various perspectives valuable because they often enrich my creative process and ensure that my music speaks to a wide range of individuals. Remaining true to myself means embracing vulnerability and embracing the entirety of who I am. While it can be tempting to conform to popular trends, I believe creating music that is unapologetically true to oneself bears high value.
In addition to striving for relevance and meaning, I strive to create music that pushes the boundaries of musical expression. However, I am not interested in pushing boundaries as a mere pursuit of novelty for novelty’s sake. Pushing boundaries is a crucial part for my compositions because it continually challenges myself to expand my creative horizons and to cultivate my own distinct voice. Embracing unconventional techniques or structures opens up hidden possibilities, expanding the palette with which I can communicate and connect with others. Pushing boundaries also offers audiences to engage with music in unexpected ways. By defying expectations of conventional musical elements, I aspire to create an experience that provokes thought and ignites inspiration.
Ultimately, my aim is to compose music that is both accessible and innovative, inviting listeners to engage with the familiar while embracing the unexpected, which can be achieved by combining elements from various cultures, genres, and traditions. Through the integration of these elements, I aim to bridge gaps, foster cultural exchange, and celebrate a space where people from all backgrounds can find common ground.
